Get Those 3D Glasses Prepped and Ready!
What If THIS is the Best Shopping Tip I Ever Give U?
And I love shopping
and I love auctions too...
But if you are a collector, listen up --- er, read on! For some reason, I am not sure I care to know, about 70,000 items will be liquidated – all from prop storage at 20th Century..as in one of those BIG studios in Hollywood
AND you don’t have to be in Hollywood to shop the items! Apparently, you can just visit this website to learn more about where you can bid.
Good shopping? Great Deal? I think these folks would make a WHOLE lot more -- if they'd simply take a photo and auction it online...or maybe the piece came with a document that says where it came from - movies it may have been used for...something like that -- but that is just me.

September 2009 - Beatles on ROCKBAND?!!
Well, you get the tune -- and honestly, I can’t wait to update my Rock Band with the next round of some 15 plus tracks which features that all time favorite band The Beatles ™ Rock Band ™.
Want to see a trailer of gameplay? CLICK HERE!
.
The newly announced 15 songs represent a cross-section of hits and favorites that span The Beatles' storied career from Can't Buy Me Love and Paperback Writer to With A Little Help From My Friends and Yellow Submarine, bringing the total number of announced songs to 25.
Additional on-disc songs will be announced at a later date. From the early touring days in 1963 Liverpool to the immortal, final performance on the Apple Corps rooftop, fans can follow in The Fab Four's footsteps as they traverse the globe during the height of Beatlemania.
For the FIRST TIME in a music videogame, The Beatles: Rock Band introduces three-part vocal harmonies to gameplay, allowing gamers to revel in the unparalleled vocal stylings of The Beatles.
I can’t help but wonder if this is kind of like current editions where you can half way say la, la, la in a monotone semi-harmony and appease the “pitch” finding arrow. BUT that’s just me.
The Beatles: Rock Band will be available September 9, 2009, simultaneously worldwide in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and other territories for the Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3 and the Wii. AND YES -- The game will be compatible with all Rock Band instrument controllers, as well as most Guitar Hero((R)) and other authorized third-party music video game peripherals and microphones.

"Films can play a powerful role in inspiring action on human rights, justice, accountability, and other open society issues," said Aryeh Neier, president of the Open Society Institute. "The Sundance Institute's work helps filmmakers shed light on the most pressing challenges of our time."
The award renews the Open Society Institute's support for the Sundance Documentary Film Program, which began at OSI in 1996 and was made part of the Sundance Institute in 2002 with an initial $4.6 million dollar gift. As a dollar-for-dollar matching grant, the Sundance Institute aims to raise $10 million over the next five years to support documentaries on significant, contemporary issues.
"This critical funding at a very fragile time is a significant commitment to supporting the belief that documentary storytelling has a meaningful role in the international work toward justice and equity across a range of issues," said Cara Mertes, director of the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program.
The Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program offers funding as well as creative, production, and distribution support to documentary filmmakers through a range of opportunities and services. These include the Sundance Institute Documentary Fund, the Documentary Edit and Story Laboratory, Documentary Composers Laboratory, Creative Documentary Producers Lab, as well as the Sundance Film Festival, Creative Producers Summit, work-in-progress screenings, and partnerships such as the Skoll Stories of Change partnership, the Channel Four Foundation Good Pitch partnership, and a variety of international initiatives and collaborations.
Since its inception in 1996, the Sundance Institute Documentary Fund has awarded grants to more than 450 films in 54 countries, from the former Soviet Union, the Middle East, China, India, Africa, North America and elsewhere. Films that have received financial and creative support include: My Country, My Country; The Devil Came on Horseback; Iraq in Fragments; and Trouble the Water.

Sigourney Weaver Narrates Documentary: ACID TEST
Featuring narration and commentary by actress Sigourney Weaver, ACID TEST is a groundbreaking documentary produced by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) that explores the startling phenomenon of ocean acidification, which may soon challenge the survival of thousands of marine species.
"The other carbon problem," as many scientists refer to our oceans' changing chemistry, is at the center of this revealing documentary. Carbon dioxide pollution is the primary cause of global warming, but it also is making ocean water more acidic. Since the industrial revolution, the ocean has absorbed a quarter of all the carbon dioxide emissions produced by burning fossil fuels -- causing a 30% increase in ocean acidity. What does this mean for life in the ocean? It's a matter of chemistry, and when acidity gets too high, the shells of sea creatures dissolve, threatening the entire ocean food web.
Such conditions haven't existed since the extinction of the dinosaurs, and the recreation of those conditions so quickly is leaving many ocean animals unable to adapt. Society can take steps to ensure the health of the oceans, but time is running out. ACID TEST reveals to viewers why it is critical to take action now, and how people can become part of the solution in securing a healthier future for the world's oceans and humankind.
ACID TEST makes its debut within Planet Green's special programming event, Blue August, a robust month of on-air and online content that brings to life the wonders and mysteries of all things aquatic -- from the majesty of our oceans to the critical issue of clean drinking water. Hosted by prominent conservationists and explorers Philippe and Alexandra Cousteau, Blue August features awe-inspiring documentaries including the network premiere of the Blue Planet series. In addition to ACID TEST, Planet Green will also premiere a special episode of FOCUS EARTH WITH BOB WOODRUFF on Wednesday, August 12 at 10PM ET that examines the state of our oceans and freshwater systems.
Blue August also features innovative and entertaining short-form content and commentary from world renowned partners and experts on PlanetGreen.com and TreeHugger.com to captivate and immerse audiences in a world of intrigue, real-life drama and the important choices that will shape our future. In addition to NRDC, Ocean Conservancy, Oceana and the United Nations Environment Programme have joined Planet Green for the month-long initiative.
ACID TEST: THE GLOBAL CHALLENGE OF OCEAN ACIDIFICATION premieres on Wednesday, August 12 at 10:30PM ET on Planet Green. ACID TEST was produced by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) for Planet Green, and directed by Daniel Hinerfeld and Tristan Bayer.

October 4th, 2009: St. Louis, Missouri
Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews to headline Oct. 4 all-star concert event
Farm Aid, alongside farmers and food buyers at the Historic Soulard Farmer's Market, announces it will bring its annual benefit concert to St. Louis, Missouri. This definitely marks the first time that the organization will stage the event in Missouri.
"Farm Aid has deep roots in the Midwest that reach back to our first concert in Illinois in 1985," said Farm Aid president Willie Nelson. "I'm looking forward to bringing my friends together on the Farm Aid stage to celebrate family farmers and the crucial work they do. Farmers do so much more than bring us the good food we all want to eat. America needs family farmers to revitalize our economy and make our country healthy."
Farm Aid 2009 Presented by Horizon Organic will feature Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews on Sunday, October 4 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Maryland Heights, Mo., plus other top artists to be announced. The concert event will celebrate music, family farmers and good food, and will again feature HOMEGROWN concessions--family-farm identified, local and organic foods. Farm Aid's HOMEGROWN Village will showcase hands-on activities that give concertgoers a chance to meet farmers, get their hands dirty, and learn how family farmers are enriching our soil, protecting our water, and connecting us to our roots.
"Family farmers are innovative entrepreneurs who safeguard our food, environment and health," said Carolyn Mugar, executive director of Farm Aid. "Since the beginning, Farm Aid has worked with family farmers in the Midwest to keep them on the land, especially in the face of factory farms that have threatened to take over food production. At Farm Aid, concertgoers will reap the benefits of this work and will experience food grown by Missouri's family farms."
St. Louis Mayor Francis G. Slay and County Executive Charlie Dooley welcomed Farm Aid to St. Louis and highlighted the economic contributions family farmers make to the regional economy.
"St. Louis is a destination for the country's biggest events," said Mayor Slay. "We are proud to host Farm Aid for the first time and shine a spotlight on the contributions Missouri's family farmers make to building a strong local economy and a vibrant community."
For nearly a quarter century, Farm Aid has traveled the country, staging annual concerts and supporting organizations that work locally, regionally and nationally to strengthen family farms. This year, Farm Aid has received a record number of calls to its hotline from farmers in need due to credit shortages, falling prices and the sharp increase in costs of production. Farm Aid's annual benefit concert is its primary event to raise funds in support of this work.
Tickets for Farm Aid 2009 Presented by Horizon Organic will go on sale July 25 at 10 a.m. CDT and are available exclusively at www.livenation.com, the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater Box Office, by calling (877) 598-8703, or at participating Blockbuster stores. Click here for a list of locations.
There is no service charge at the Verizon Wireless Box Office for the first week of ticket sales, July 25-August 1. Tickets for Farm Aid 2009 Presented by Horizon Organic are $39 for lawn; $44, $54 and $79 for seats; and $169 for a limited number of premium seats.
Farm Aid will offer special advance sale tickets to Farm Aid members beginning July 17. To become a member of Farm Aid, click here.
Farm Aid's mission is to build a vibrant, family farm-centered system of agriculture in America. Farm Aid artists and board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews host an annual concert to raise funds to support Farm Aid's work with family farmers and to inspire people to choose family-farmed food. Since 1985, Farm Aid, with the support of the artists who contribute their performances each year, has raised nearly $35 million to support programs that help farmers thrive, expand the reach of the Good Food Movement, take action to change the dominant system of industrial agriculture and promote food from family farms.

No Longer the Big One That Got Away: A Post for My Angler Friends

The Forrest Wood Cup: Ooooh Yeah – I’m talking fisherman! Mark your calendars if angling is your sport -- A little more than a year from now, Georgia will host the world's richest professional bass fishing tournament, the $2.5 million Forrest Wood Cup presented by BP and Castrol, Aug. 5-8, 2010 on Lake Lanier near Atlanta, in which the world's best professional bass anglers will square off in the final tournament of the Wal-mart FLW Tour and compete in the world championship of bass fishing, and its $1 million grand prize.
AND – to pacify you between now and then, yes, like most major sports out there, a fantasy fishing website will not quite offer you the full monty of the smell, the buoyant sensation of your boat or the tug on your rod, but, if it’s raining and you’re truly a fan to the point you keep up with expert professionals you can feel competitive by creating your own fantasy fishing team.
Now, knowing just enough about fantasy football, golf, basketball and baseball – studying up pays off. So, you have a year to bone up on your professional fisherman before you get truly competitive on FantasyFishing.com .
There, you’ll be able to select 10 professional bass fishermen competing. So far the website’s peep’s report about 123 different countries represented online – in the game.
Okay – yes we’re talking fantasy – you earn points based off the pro’s performance like any other fantasy league. There are bonus points for somethings, and then from there – beyond the whole getting hooked on yet another “FANTASY LEAGUE”, those playing hard core – there’s money to win.
A native of Ft. Madison, Iowa, this guy named “Lawrence” has already won once – and is gearing up for the next round. He says that he dreams of getting a new bass boat to replace the bass boat he bought four years ago with his prize money. But, it's likely that his wife Stacy will have first say on his $100,000 prize.
"I'd love a new Ranger bass boat," Lawrence said, "but I think my wife has her eye on a new kitchen. And, she's also hinting that it's time to expand our family."
While Lawrence and his wife may have to "sleep on" what they'll eventually do with their prize winnings, one thing they know they'll do for sure is take their two daughters to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
So there you go – Should be fun for my fishing friends!

Local Film Producer Brings America's #1 Film School To Detroit
That’s why I may have gotten a little too excited when I read this press release below. Oh Well – My intrigue leads me to share it anyhow in case you are near Detroit or have the ability to travel there.
Local Film Producer Brings America's #1 Film School To Detroit
Small businesses not only help sustain the US economy, they represent 99.7% of all employer firms. The same holds true for Michigan's newest industry, film. Thus, in order to sustain the industry, it requires more Michigan-based independent producers (Joe the Producer).
It will take three steps before Joe the Producer can help sustain a filming economic base:
1) Train more Joe the Producers
2) Train screenwriters how to write "HI-CONCEPT" movies that will make money
3) Provide a means to fund Joe the Producer's film projects.
The first step takes place this month. On July 25-26, Delta Quadrant Entertainment LLC and FilminDetroit.com bring America's #1 Film School to the MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit.
"Everything you need to know about filmmaking can be learned in two to three days." - Orson Welles
Dov SS Simens, a former Green Beret and Vietnam veteran teaches this intensive 2-Day Film School -- July 25-26 (8:30AM-6PM).
He boils down four years of training into only two days, with as many bathroom breaks. Some of Simens's former students are Quentin Tarantino, Spike Lee, Christopher Nolan (the Dark Knight), Emo Phillips (Meet the Parents) and Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire). Over the last ten years, his students have grossed over $8 billion dollars in the film industry.
Delta Quadrant Entertainment LLC and beneath the underdog Films have awarded 15 scholarships (valued at $395) to students at Covenant House Life Skills School in Detroit, a second-chance high school.
They are also in the process of duplicating this with Detroit Public High Schools. The youth are our future, no matter where they come from.
Delta Quadrant Entertainment LLC and beneath the underdog Films requested that the No Worker Left Behind Program pay for the tuition of "displaced auto workers" that want to attend. The request was denied.
Therefore, Delta Quadrant Entertainment and beneath the underdog Films have initiated their own, No Worker Left Behind Program.
The first 100 displaced autoworkers to pre-register (at a different location - to be determined) will be granted entry for only $50. After that, they will be discounted by $100.
The only thing better than seeing the next great film producer come out of Michigan, is to see that producer stay in Michigan.

Look Ma – My Made Up Word’s in The Dictionary!
This year, Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary added a new word – a word we are truly familiar with – thanks to economic “crisis” reporting and haute little mags promoting local community and family togetherness: “STAYCATION”
I love it. It’s fun to say – and easy to imagine. And now it’s in the official dictionary!
"Our language evolves in many ways," said John Morse, president and publisher of Merriam-Webster Inc. "As we've seen from our Open Dictionary feature on Merriam-Webster.com, people enjoy blending existing words, like combining 'stay' and 'vacation' to make staycation. Staycation is a good example of a word meeting a need and establishing itself in the language very quickly. Our earliest record of use is from 2005, but it seems to have exploded into popular use in 2007."
You ever hear the phrase – “keep your friends close and your enemies even closer”?
"Another example of this kind of creative wordplay from this year's list," said Morse, "is frenemy: one who pretends to be a friend but is actually an enemy. But, in addition to these 'portmanteau words,' we have added new words from more predictable categories, like science, health, technology, and popular culture, which have also seen widespread use across a variety of publications."
Many of the new words reflect the importance of the environment (carbon footprint, green- collar), government activities (earmark, waterboarding), health and medicine (cardioprotective, locavore, naproxen, neuroprotective), pop culture (docusoap, fan fiction, flash mob, reggaeton), and online activities (sock puppet, vlog, webisode). Other words added include haram, memory foam, missalette, and zip line.
For a sample blend of the latest Collegiate Dictionary entries -- and their definitions -- please visit Merriam-Webster.com.
wonder what this means for the spelling bee word list?
Partying Under the St. Louis Lights for an All-Star Game?
The City’s Mayor says, "St. Louis is proud to be the home of America's best baseball fans, and this year's All-Star Game is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our love for the sport," said Slay. "An important part of that includes promoting responsible behavior and ensuring a great experience for fans. We thank Anheuser-Busch and its partners in the community for their efforts to promote a fun, yet safe time."
So, why is a politician thanking a major beer brewer? Well, apparently, Anheuser-Busch has partnered with Major League Baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals, Sport service and TEAM Coalition to implement the Budweiser Good Sport program at events being held at Busch Stadium. Good Sport is a comprehensive action plan designed to promote a positive environment by reminding fans to act responsibly, respect the rights of others and use a designated driver. Participants who sign up to be the designated driver for their group as part of the Good Sport program receive a free soda or non-alcohol O'Doul's and promotional beads.
The press release says “Consumers” (– which makes me wonder if you have to prove you were drinking an Anheuser-Busch product - )interested in receiving a ride for both themselves and their vehicles can call ScooterGuy, which will be stationed outside of Busch Stadium and at area bars and restaurants.
When ScooterGuy is notified that someone needs a safe ride home, a ScooterGuy representative rides a foldable scooter to meet the customer at his/her vehicle, places the scooter in the trunk of the vehicle and then drives that person home. After delivering the customer to his/her residence, the ScooterGuy representative returns to area bars to help the next patron.
OH YES, the press release on this little ditty also lists the phone number – in case your traveling to the game and need to program it in your cell – “ScooterGuy's number in St. Louis is 314-255-1800. The rate is 35 miles for $45.”
Benefits of Chasing A Little White Ball
Health and fitness experts advocate taking 10,000 steps per day, the equivalent of five miles. Walking a 9-hole course enables a golfer to take approximately half the recommended daily steps. Walking the course also enables golfers to burn calories.
A player can burn around 2,900 calories by walking 36 holes a week, or two 18-hole rounds. A visit to the driving range can burn 200 calories per hour. According to a study conducted at the Rose Center for Health and Sports Sciences, burning 2,500 calories a week showed an improvement in overall health and a lower risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
Even riding in a golf cart for 9 holes will burn around 400 calories, help oxygenate the body, improve posture and renew your spirit.
To further reap the benefits of the game, David Donatucci, fitness director for the PGA of America, recommends including golf-specific strength and flexibility exercises with driving range and course time. "Training your body to use the right muscle groups will increase your chances of avoiding injuries, improving your swing and saving strokes." Including weight-bearing exercise in a fitness regime also helps strengthen bones and creates lean muscle mass.
Also, remember:
1. Don't stress about how well you play. Keeping the focus on having fun
and enjoying the outdoors will provide an endorphin release, which
leads to improved mental and emotional health.
2. Fuel up for your game with a healthy diet. Bring nutritious snacks such
as dried fruit or nuts to help keep you energized. Stay hydrated.

Seeking Balance and Burning My Race Card
For years networks have reached out with polls and seeking television consumer vantage points. You could assume after a decent web search that Article after article have been published, stories broadcast or even aired – with results indicating a need for more of a visible or audible Latino presence, more of a black or African-American presence or even for that matter more actors or talent of Asian descent.
So, newsrooms across the nation quietly sought out their “token” personalities – without ever admitting then or now to profiling – that they felt it was something that must be done in order to more easily appeal to a viewer or to relate and convey a message to an audience; and even further more casting companies and network executives brought race friendly sitcoms, comedians and dramas to the television sets of millions of viewers – More so – into theaters “near you”.
The viewers asked for it right? It is what the focus groups surmised, right?
But here, I read the LATEST CONTROVERSY from the entertainment industry --- RACIALLY LOADED CRITICISM of a the new TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen, movie!
The criticism surrounds the verbal dialect chosen by the voice over actors portraying the characters of “Skids” and “Mudflap” -- twin bots right?
One movie goer is quoted by The Associated Press, saying the character portrayals are “a slap to the black community’s face”.
C’mon! Take it with a grain of salt! ONE voice over actor is actually black or of African-American descent (Reno Wilson). I can’t help but wonder if the voice over actor, he as an individual, is going to take the criticism personally? If I were him, I would.
If Jackie Chan had been the actor providing the voice over for one of those bots, his fandom would be proud. Asian born Americans would find him, his voice rather, easily relatable.
Say if George Lopez provides the voice over? Do you really think Latin America would step up and slap filmmakers for their alleged disregard for politically correct sensitivity?
AND WHILE you are truly ponder on that, consider for once the groups in those television industry focus groups and polls – as they asked for a better representation in the overall media!
Plus – it’s all intended for entertainment value – not out of malice and not to alienate. I surmise major studios are in it for the bottom line and for the joy of entertaining the masses. So, tell me why would they throw a rug out for you to pay to walk on only to turn around and yank it, point and laugh? C’mon!
We’ve got a war, hunger, homelessness, an economic plethora of issues, a democracy we should be more proactive about –
Do you really want to focus on little things that YOU subject yourself to and feel so suddenly compelled and worthy of becoming a critic – waving a race card – and basing it on dialect?
Before you fire off that comment your fingers are itching to pound out on that keyboard, Yes, I know the other twin was made by a Caucasian male voiceover actor (Tom Kenny).
Two Words, three guys:-- BEASTIE BOYS!
So – now we’re talking regional dialect verses the race card– and while racial generalizations and stereotypes are commonly pegged with skin color, regions or even neighborhoods – we often pick up the accents we are most frequently around or are comfortable speaking.
Besides – do you hear southerners crying out and raising a posse every time we hear an awful emulation of a dialect so remarkably unusual it sours the sugar in our sweet tea? And what about the Bostonians who suffer through the horrific butchering of their native tongue?
Really,-- TV, Radio, and Movies – it’s something you have a bit of control over when it comes to consumption. If you don’t like it, you find yourself offended – turn it off, change the channel or just walk away.
If you prefer, take the necessary steps to write, make and create a version more suitable to your interpretation or liking…
But don’t pull some lame little race card out on menial moments ---
Do you really want to be remembered as “that guy”?
NOTE: THIS ENTRY WAS WRITTEN BY A FEMALE, BORN IN ALABAMA, RAISED PRIMARILY IN THE SOUTH – RACE: ASIAN / CHEROKEE – SPEAKS WITH STRONG SOUTHERN DRAWL.

Releasing June 25: The Back Nine
Can an average 42-year old golfer, husband and father of two become an elite athlete? Can he do it after beginning his own "back nine?" And once he starts the journey, what will become of his dream?
It is a journey independent filmmaker Jon Fitzgerald couldn't wait to find out and he left nothing to chance in assembling the best team he could find to stack the cards in his favor.
With celebrities such as George Lopez, Meat Loaf and Chris O'Donnell helping bring the action to life, "THE BACK NINE" documents Fitzgerald's quest to the answer of the question of how he balances a full-time job and family commitments with an enduring dream he's had as long as he can remember - to play professional golf.
Fitzgerald brought in distinguished PGA Professional instructor Tim Suzor of the Kinetic Golf Academy in Scottsdale, AZ to work on his swing, distinguished author Dr. Joe Parent (Zen Golf) to work on his mental game, and yoga guru Katherine Roberts - a Golf Channel favorite - as well as a team of physical coaches to help with fitness and nutrition.
The strategy works, as Fitzgerald sees his handicap go from 15 to 8 in the first year. Ready to test his progress, he joins Golf Channel's Amateur Tour and remarkably, manages to win his first event. Later, he receives an invitation to the National Championships in Orlando, Fla.
Fitzgerald currently plays to a 4 handicap as he works on fine-tuning not only his game and his life, but his dream through "THE BACK NINE".
The film covers this inspirational journey from many angles, beyond merely tracking his golf progress. Fitzgerald must also come to terms with who he is, balancing the experience and guidance of his two father figures - polar opposites as people and influences in his life. Now with children of his own, Fitzgerald senses an opportunity.
Recognizing where his life's mentors have fallen short, Fitzgerald sees his turn at fatherhood as a chance to "break the cycle" and establish a new approach to life, family and golf. "THE BACK NINE" presents the challenges inherent with finding the right balance between Fitzgerald's personal and professional goals.
Shot with Digital Camera's, the festival favorite that reached critical acclaim across the nation,"THE BACK NINE", takes you into one man's devotion to divergent paths in his life, will open for theatrical release June 25.
Granted, it will open up in select golf communties in 23 different states, producers plan to release "THE BACK NINE" on DVD and video-on-demand, as well as pursue other avenues of new technologies.
Do as I say or Do as Do?

June 22, 2009 -- A shift in power governing tobacco products took place on Monday, after U.S. President Barack Obama signed legislation granting the Food and Drug Administration the authority to regulate the tobacco industry.
It is an action Democrat and Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi was quick to chime in on.
Speaker Pelosi states, "All Americans have benefited from the oversight of the FDA on foods that we eat and medicines we take. Yet, despite the fact that tobacco is one of the deadliest products in America, the FDA has had no authority to regulate it. Today, this new law corrects that wrong.”
It’s called the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act:
• Gives FDA authority to regulate tobacco products and marketing;
• FDA will create a new Center for Tobacco Products to oversee the science-based regulation of tobacco products in the United States;
• Bans flavored cigarettes by October 2009;
• Forces tobacco firms and importers to submit information to the FDA about ingredients and additives in tobacco products;
• Places strict limits on tobacco advertising in publications with a significant teenage readership;
• FDA will now have to enforce a rule banning outdoor tobacco advertising within a thousand feet of schools or playgrounds;
• Bans the use of words like "mild" or "light" in ads that makes tobacco products seem safer.
• Ends all tobacco-brand sponsorship of sporting or entertainment events;
• Requires tobacco companies to disclose ingredients to the FDA (and the FDA can require changes in the ingredient list in the name of public health – BUT the FDA cannot reduce nicotine content to zero or ban a class of tobacco)
Of course – non-profit organizations such as the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association backed the passage of the bill into law.

SHOP TIL YOU DROP! and other not very well thought out ramblings...
Friday, the website Chattanoogan dot com published an interesting article written by Ms. Judy Franks.
So, the economy is down. The general revenue coming in -- is down. Governments are trying to balance budgets with shortfalls. While white knuckling a wallet seems like a very smart thing to do -- I sometimes wonder if the whole "SHOPPING" thing is now out of style?
Remember when "SHOP TIL U DROP" was on logo gear everywhere? AND the movie industry focused on the sociology of mall life?
I wonder if trends to "shop local" truly pinch the larger retailers? as moms and pops make very strong efforts to rock it out in the local markets.
Apparently, savy shoppers have cornered an area of retail that not allows one to shop but to DODGE prices by clipping AND USING - coupons.
I say the AND USING part because clippin the buggers is only a third of the actual task of savings.
Ms. Franks article says that the retailer KMART is doubling coupons with values UP TO $2. -- Got a two dollar coupon -- well, by the time it's all said and done, the saving is $4! Very nice!
So, this Sunday -- when you're sorting through your paper -- or even cruising the web to supplement your shopping list with coupons -- it's an interesting tidbit to keep in mind. But don't forget to visit your local fresh markets too!

Is it Day 3 in a North Korean Labor Camp?

This week, in the moments I am not asking questions and contemplating the next big step …I’ve been thinking of what I would have once considered an unimaginable fate.
It’s been at least three days since headlines translated a frightening fate for two American Journalists.
I don’t know about you but I haven’t seen much about 32-year-old Laura Ling and 36-year-old Euna Lee since it was announced they’d spend twelve years in a North Korean labor camp.
According to a journalism festival website, where Ling was scheduled to appear, the two journals were arrested while filming near the North Korea-China border.
The site states: "The two journalists, together with a cameraman and a guide, were headed to the town of Yanji where they planned to interview women forced into prostitution, according to sources.
Laura Ling was due to appear at the International Journalism Festival on Saturday 04 April as part of the presentation of the Current US Vanguard journalism unit."
The website goes on to share: "Laura Ling currently serves as Vice President of Current TV’s Vanguard Journalism unit, the network’s journalism division dedicated to covering global issues that are relevant to young adult audiences. Ling also serves as an on-air correspondent for Current TV. She has covered subjects including the avian flu crisis in Asia, slave labor in the Brazilian Amazon, China’s booming sex industry and marijuana cultivation in California’s national forests. Prior to joining Current in 2005, Ling worked as a series producer for Channel One News where she produced reports from over two-dozen countries. She has posed as a tourist in North Korea, covered underground youth culture in Iran and interviewed the leaders of the United Wa State Army in Myanmar—one of the largest armed drug trafficking organizations in the world. Ling co-created Breaking it Down, a documentary series on MTV that aired between 1999 and 2001. Her work has also appeared on ABC's Nightline, NBC, PBS and the WB."
Busting rocks in a labor camp for twelve years? I wonder.... I did find this interview and thought I'd share the link in case you wanted to read that. It's pretty incredible.
Where do they sleep? How often do they get to sleep? Why are they being punished? What story were they on? AND twelve years may be the longest assignment ever….
More questions continue for me. Why? From what I’m reading in the New York Times, there is one indication they inadvertently crossed the North Korean border…however the only headlines I’m seeing as of late, talk of US and China sanctioning.
It goes on and on. But this is what I think of today.

WOW - You've gotta be kidding me!
Last night, my dear uncle in Arkansas shared a very interesting story with me about a PRANK CALL that led to 50-thousand dollars in damage to a hotel in my hometown of Conway, Arkansas. AND yes, same hometown as American Idol, Kris Allen. And no, I do not know him.
SERIOUSLY! The police report indicates: a person called the front desk of the Holiday Inn Express and said they were an employee at a fire sprinkler service. Supposedly, the caller told the clerk there was a problem with the sprinklers and that there was an immediate need to reset them - by pulling the fire alarm. Naturally, the alarm goes off. Caller says pull the fire lever down to cut it off. Nothing happens, so she's told to break out the windows to keep the sprinklers from firing off their watery spray. Now, keep in mind, alarm goes off -- everyone staying there evacuates because they have NO idea what is going on.
In the meantime, this clerk proceeds to break out the front windows, asking a bystander to assist her in the glass busting task! OH and this is not the end. THE caller then says, take part of a sprinkler head off -- again to prevent them from doing what they're there for. Again, doing as told -- the FLOOD began...
AND yes...the story continues: Apparently the next instruction was to reset the control panel -- but again -- unsuccessfully because the water showering down caused the POWER to shut off.
By the time police got there well over a hundred guests, the clerk and her glass breaking bystander were hanging in the parking lot.

So then she says...Do you wanna pay with credit,, cash or check?
Reading through the piles of news stories and headlines I’d missed in ONE day…I found a tidbit about a doc having to give up her psych license. Why you say? The dialogue is just playing through my head – “YOU wanna CHARGE ME FOR THAT?!!!”
The whole thing falls on the lines of a made for television movie and maybe even an bad after school special...but just to put a positive spin on this...I'll start by saying:
One of my Favorite movies -- is What about Bob?
So, that was your set-up if you didn't catch it -- the whole dependency on the doc thing.
NOW:
Fact verses fiction -- There's a psychologist out there that handed in their license that was under scrutiny -- THIS COMES, after taking a patient SHOPPING and on extended trips. Maybe, hmmmm...maybe the red flag was the good doc charging the patient for the retail therapy!
While even a "non-psyche pedigreed" could observe the unnatural order of that relationship and ethic....but really -- how weird is that?

BONNAROO: TO IT or AROUND IT!!!
AND for the other demographic -- your thoughts or at least mine -- turn to planning drive times. I mean really -- some 80,000 or so people come from all over the world just to find their way to Manchester, Tennessee.
What you may want to know:
June 11th 7:00 AM Central - GATES OPEN
Juen 11th is the heaviest traffic
Exit 111 (SR 55) will be used as the main festival exit.
Exits: 97, 105, 112 (temporary exit on westbound side only), 117 and 127 are alternate exits IF congestion occurs on the interstate.
HELP TRUCKS thanks to the Tennessee Department of Transporation: posted throughout the festival region, and maintenance personnel on call all weekend.
TDOT will have message signs up -
NOTE: Festival traffic will be kept in the right lane and/or on the shoulder of the interstate, allowing through traffic to utilize the left travel --
ALSO -- for those attending and for those who wish for the convenience of those quick off ramp stops: ICE, Beverages, etc -- WELL, let's just say - if you don't stock up somewhere PRECEDING your arrival there -- exits as far as Chattanooga (east of Manchester) and Murfreesboro (west of Manchester) have been known to run out of those gallon jugs of water, beer, ice. So, again, STOCK UP on those essentials.

This Intrigues Me:
On the flip side -- State financial guru's say they're thinking that about 100-million dollars MORE is needed from Tennessee's "Rainy Day Fund" to shore up this year's budget. Well, at least that's what they told the State House Finance committee -- this comes as estimates of May's tax receipts are tallied up -- Wasn't MOTHER's DAY in MAY?? AND Memorial Day -- the big white sales and shoes and the sale of all the season transitionals?
hmmm....could this translate into a whole different idea -- we just don't spend on mom? We just don't spend?
What does this translate to? More cuts? Or rather DEEP CUTS next year? I certainly do not envy, those wielding the ax and having to drop it on the chopping block.

Recycling Opportunities INCREASE within City Limits
(CHATTANOOGA) — Plastic, paper and metal - RECYCLING is a BIG issue within the City of Chattanooga. June 2009, At the open of his second term, Mayor Littlefield announced an increase in curbside recycling -- increasing the city's service from once a month to twice a month beginning in September of 2009.
When the current mayor, Ron Littlefield, took office -- budget discussions eventually brought about a significant decrease in the Scenic City's curbside pick-up routine. Though, that cut in budget left recycling buffs piling up the cans and bags in their garage or pantry - the City launched an education campaign (2007) complete with mascot and began implementing recycling drop sites throughout the city limits.
With the announcement of the curbside recycling increase also comes a call for REGISTRATION! That's right -- in order to join the biweekly collection list - you'll have to visit the recycleright.org website or call 643-JOIN

A FREEBIE for ya --
Alright -- So, Chattanooga, Tennessee's BIG music festival is in just a matter of days. It's the same one, that happens about this very same time - hosted by the Friends of the Festival -- and IF YOU do not know about this event, Click on the google search to the right and it'll pull up FRIENDS OF THE FESTIVAL with the event line-up and schedule.BUT TODAY -- Rolling through the latest "happenings" on the Chattanoogan.com -- I see a nice little article about PARKING! YUP -- Thought Chattanooga Festival goers would want to know, that according to the web report, "Unum Offers Parking Lots For Riverbend Festival"
THAT is about enough room for around 600 vehicles -- that is if PEOPLE park in between the little painted lines -- Imagine: IF festival goers were to carpool -- (ponder....ponder....think...imagine...awwlrigght).
Unum is offering its parking lots for Riverbend festival fans. Unum’s lots include 600 parking spaces that neighbor the festival sites making Unum’s lots convenient for festival-goers.
Now, the Chattanoogan.com indicates there are restrictions -- because the parking is needed for regular work hours.
Here is what I'd want to know: "Beginning June 5 and ending June 13, Unum’s parking lots will be available after 4 p.m. Parking is available all day on the weekends." SOURCE: chattanoogan.com
Beyond that -- If you're vehicle gets towed -- just check the aforementioned website and their detailed article in "HAPPENINGS" section, for the tow company details.
